Gratitude, Schmatitude.
I am washing my dishes. I am so thankful I have dishes, and a dishwasher, and soap to clean, and hot water, and my Scrub Daddy (no, not the Latin lover, but America’s favorite sponge). And I used these utensils to eat healthy food and nourish my body.
What a hook!
Have the Courage to Embrace Change.
“Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage.”
― Anais Nin
Let’s talk about the big C word. Change is good. Change is nice. Change is hard (for some). Yesterday I was chatting with a student who, like me, doesn't like change. Why, I ask? Because I like routine. Because I like predictability. Understandable. But maybe you’re a person who prefers every day to be a little different than the last? Maybe you embrace change?
Why is it that some people have such a hard time with change?
When Life Gives You Lemons…
It’s a phrase referenced and repeated throughout history and in pop culture. Some attribute the origin of the saying to a Christian anarchist, but even the famed self-improvement guru of the 20th century, Dale Carnegie, receives credit for pushing the proverb.
To paraphrase, when faced with trouble or misfortune, remain optimistic. Easier said than done. But I really like this one. Not only does it teach a great lesson about grit and fortitude during challenges, but it also reminds me that, when life does offer something sweet to savor it, drink it in, and value the experience. People celebrate the good, but can we also learn to appreciate The Bad?
Isn’t it ironic... Don’t you think?
I first learned about irony while listening to Alanis Morissette’s 1996 #1 hit “Ironic” that goes a little something like this: “It’s like rain on your wedding day, It’s like a free ride when you’ve already paid, It’s the good advice that you used didn’t take…”
To do it all, or not.
I was supposed to publish this yesterday. Am I a failure since I didn’t hold myself accountable to publish this on the day I intended? No. I am not. It’s done. I had to honor myself yesterday and get more rest. Hence, the content of my post holds true - sometimes we need to be doing, and sometimes, we need to be doing nothing at all.
